JOOC was a great teacher. He taught us the difference between paediatrics and child health - the latter takes into account the child's life experiences (where they live, the financial and social circumstances of the family) which significantly influence their health and life chances while the latter focuses mainly on the individual child without fully accounting for their life experiences. 

He would tell us, his students, there are two types of knowledge: one you hold in your head (the chew-and-pour type) and the other, you know where to find the right information - treasure the latter for the former is transient... And he would go on to say textbooks are obsolete...because by the time they are written the evidence would have moved on - read research papers!......

A great inspiration to many he was!
